Press Release

TheJeweller.com is about to change hands for the first time in 20 years. But is it really worth over $1 Million?

For Immediate Release

8 December 2021 (Sudbury, Suffolk, England)

On Christmas Eve, the auction for the domain name TheJeweller.com closes. When it does the jewelry, diamond and bullion industry will have an know if ecommerce in the sector is about to change. Or if domain name investors will once again stifle the market.

The current domain owner, Kevin Polley, director of Mutual Advantage Ltd, based in Sudbury, Suffolk, UK, originally registered the domain in February 2000 with the intention of developing a website to promote and sell jewelry an affiliate.

"I knew the domain name would make an amazing brand. It's easy to remember and from an advertising perspective it's a dream come true." he said "But my work in ecommerce SEO took off and it meant I never had the time to do the domain justice. It's time for someone in the industry to do something special with it."

Domain names can sell for millions of dollars. Business.com, sold in 2007 for $345 million. CarInsurance.com sold for $49.7 million and VacationRentals.com for $35 million. So how much does Kevin think TheJeweller.com will sell for?

"It would be great if it sold for seven figures but I'm realistic. I know it's worth at least five figures on any day of the week with a 'Y' in it. From the technical perspective of SEO and PPC advertising, search engines treat 'jeweller' and 'jeweler' as the same term, so who ever buys it will get an immediate competitive advantage."

Sales of similar domain names indicate he could be right.

jewelers.com sold for $150755 in 2007, thejeweler.com sold for $20,000 and regional domains jeweller.com.au sold for $9,200 in 2009 and jewelers.co.uk made over $5,000 in 2009.

Interestingly for the jewellry industry, all of these domains except the .AU were snapped up as investments by domain name speculators. Even visitors to the .AU domain are being forwarded to one of Australia’s first online only jewellers.

The auction is being held on Flippa, the trusted global #1 marketplace to buy and sell domains and online businesses. It ends on Christmas Eve and the winning bid transaction will be handled using the safe and secure Escrow facility.
